Calendar icon
Total walking distance: 20 Km
Calendar icon
Departure Point: Puerto Jiménez downtown
What to Expect on Your Journey:

Trail description: Features relatively flat terrain but requires trekking over dirt, rocks, and sand, as well as multiple river crossings, one that’s inhabited by crocodiles. While this might sound scary, we carefully check your travel dates to ensure that the tides are favorable, allowing for safe crossings in knee-to-waist-deep waters. You can also rely on your experienced guide’s safety instructions.
Altitude: La Leona trail maintains a consistent altitude between 35 and 0 meters above sea level (MASL).
→ Navigation: While some of the trail is marked, your guide will assist with route-finding, especially on the beach hikes. The timing of river crossings and beach hikes may be influenced by tide levels. This may require some sections to be traversed quickly, while others may offer leisurely stops.
Weather: High humidity and heat year-round necessitate constant hydration (before and during the tour). The wet season spans from May to November. Please note that it is not recommended to do this trail during the rainiest months (September-November) and adverse weather conditions.
Walking Pace: Fast. There will be multiple short breaks as well as a peaceful lunchtime by a creek, under a tree, or next to a ravine.
Pack Weight: We recommend a maximum pack weight of 7 kilograms (16 lbs).
